Updated weekly10 courses rankedHow we rank

An AI engineering course teaches you to build software on top of large language models: calling model APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, agents and getting it all to production. It's the most in-demand AI skill for developers, and it's different from classic machine learning.

This list is for people who already code. It mixes long bootcamps that build many projects with Coursera professional certificates from IBM and Microsoft.

Who it's for: Software developers who want to build and ship AI features.

The top 10

Scored out of 100 from learner ratings, popularity, weekly momentum, freshness and a syllabus review. Courses from Udemy, Coursera, DataCamp.

How to choose

Projects over theory

The best AI engineering courses build several complete apps. Look for RAG, evaluation and deployment, not only API calls.

Bootcamp or certificate

Udemy bootcamps are cheaper and update faster. IBM and Microsoft certificates on Coursera take longer but carry a recognizable name on a resume.

Related skills

Pair this with agentic AI for agent frameworks, or machine learning if you want to understand the models underneath.

Questions

What is the best AI engineering course?

This week's top scorer is #1 above. Ed Donner's AI Engineer Core Track on Udemy and IBM's Generative AI Engineering certificate on Coursera have led on learner data.

What's the difference between AI engineering and machine learning?

Machine learning is about training models. AI engineering is about building products on top of existing models like GPT, Claude and Gemini, using techniques like RAG and agents.

How long does it take to become an AI engineer?

For a working developer, two to four months of steady study with a course from this list is enough to build and ship LLM features.

Do AI engineering courses need math?

Very little. You need solid programming, usually Python. The math matters more for machine learning roles.
